Steak and potatoes is a simple dish that requires a few key steps to ensure the perfect outcome every time, a classic dish that is delicious and satisfying. In this post I will share a few tips I picked up along the way on how to achieve the perfect steak.

Ingredients

  • 1 rib eye steak
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 2 medium sized potatoes, quartered & boiled
  • 1 tsp dried rosemary
  • salt & black pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Method

  1. Thaw out steaks if frozen and allow to sit at room temperature
  2. Using paper towels, remove excess moisture from steaks
  3. Apply olive oil to steak on both sides
  4. Season one side of the steak with salt and black pepper
  5. Preheat a cast iron skillet on medium heat
  6. Add steak on pan and sear for four minutes, seasoned side down
  7. Season the other side of the steak
  8. Add butter and garlic
  9. After four minutes, flip steak and cook for another four minutes
  10. Continue to baste with butter and garlic
  11. Remove from pan and allow to rest for 5 minutes
  12. Add parboiled potatoes to pan
  13. Season with rosemary and black pepper
  14. Cook until each side is caramelized
  15. Serve and enjoy
