They say self praise is no recommendation but I think I really outdid myself with this Oven BBQ Ribs recipe. These oven bbq ribs are seasoned to perfection with a dry and wet rub combo then cooked until tender.
In addition to the amazing flavor achieved with our marinade, the homemade tamarind and five spice BBQ sauce takes these ribs into a whole other realm. This is definitely a recipe worth trying whether you do these in the oven or on the grill.
Oven BBQ Ribs
Ingredients
- I rack ribs
- 4 tbsp green seasoning
- 1 tbsp salt
- 1 tbsp black pepper
- 2 tbsp paprika
- 1 tsp cayenne pepper
- 1 tbsp cumin/geera powder
- 1 tsp MSG
- 3 tbsp tamarind
- 4 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tsp soy sauce
- 1/4 tsp five spice powder
- 3 tbsp brown sugar
- 3 cloves garlic (minced)
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 tbsp roucou
- 1/2 cup water
Prepping The Ribs
- Thaw ribs to room temperature.
- Remove membrane or silver skin (see video).
- Rub with dry rub and green seasoning.
The Dry Rub
- Add salt, black pepper, cayenne pepper, cumin powder and MSG to a bowl then combine thoroughly.
The BBQ Sauce
- Add butter to a saucepan.
- Add garlic to pan then sauté for 1 minute on low heat.
- Add tamarind, tomato paste, five spice powder, soy sauce, brown sugar, bay leaf, roucou and 1 tbsp of the dry rub to the pot. Combine well then sauté for 2 minutes.
- Add water then allow to simmer for 8 to 10 minutes.
Cooking The Ribs
- Wrap ribs in foil then place in a preheated oven at 275 degrees for 2 hours.
- Allow ribs to cool then place on a wire rack in a baking tray.
- Apply BBQ sauce liberally to ribs.
- Place ribs in the oven at 400 degrees for 30 minutes.
- Allow to rest for at least 5 minutes.
