This was a successful baking experiment using my spice grinder to manipulate ingredients from my pantry. This Oats & Flaxseed Bread uses old fashioned oats and golden flaxseed to give this loaf some added nutrients, flavor and texture.
Oats & Flaxseed Bread
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup old fashioned oats
- 1/2 cup golden flaxseed
- 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp yeast
- 1 cup warm water
- 1/3 cup olive oil
Method
- Use spice grinder to grind oats and flaxseed into a powder
- Combine dry ingredients, mix thoroughly
- Add water and oil then mix in bowl until a ball of dough is formed
- Turn dough out on to a floured surface then knead for 8 to 10 minutes
- Cover dough with a damp kitchen towel and allow to prove for 45 minutes to 1 hour or until doubled in size
- Punch air out of dough then flatten into a rectangular shape approx 1/2 inch thick
- Tuck and roll dough unto itself
- Place into a greased baking pan
- Brush dough with water and apply whole oats and flaxseed to the top
- Cover with a damp kitchen towel and allow to prove for 30 minutes
- Bake in a preheated oven at 350 degrees for 25 minutes
- All bread to cool before enjoying
