Homemade Milk Bread

This homemade milk bread is an easy recipe that makes the perfect bread for any sandwich. Most of the comments I get from people who are intimidated by making their own bread is centered around kneading the dough. In the Homemade Milk Bread Recipe video I go through the entire process of mixing and kneading the dough without editing so you get a full appreciation for the entire process and technique involved. So get your ingredients out and lets bake some bread together.

Homemade Milk Bread

Ingredients

  • 4 cups of all purpose flour
  • 1/1/4 cup full cream milk
  • 1 1/2 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 tsp sugar
  • butter for basting bread after baking

Directions

  1. Put milk in a microwave for 1 minute to bring it up to temperature. Milk should be warm to the touch, not hot.
  2. Combine dry ingredients in a bowl
  3. Gradually add milk to dry ingredients while combining with a wooden spoon, spatula or your hand
  4. Bring mixture together until a dough is formed
  5. Turn dough out onto a floured surface then knead for 8 minutes
  6. Place dough into a greased bowl and cover. Allow it to prove for 45 minutes or until doubled in size
  7. Punch the air out of the dough then place on a floured surface
  8. Use a rolling pin to roll dough out into a half inch thick rectangle
  9. Use your hands to roll the dough onto itself making sure to tuck the seam in tightly with each roll
  10. Place dough into a greased bread pan then cover
  11. Allow dough to prove for 20 minutes
  12. Place bread pan into a preheated oven at 350 degrees for 25 minutes
  13. Once the bread is out of the oven, baste with butter
  14. Place bread on a cooling rack and allow to cool for at least 20 minutes before cutting
  15. Serve & Enjoy
