Sahorie Kaheena

January 26, 2022 by baidawi Leave a Comment

What do you get when you mix Saheena with Kachorie? Is it Sahorie or Kaheena? This recipe is a kitchen experiment that I embarked upon while utilizing some dasheen bush I had in my refrigerator. The final product is a delicious vegan fritter that is the perfect snack to have while liming with friends or family.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 bundle of dasheen bush
  • 1 head of garlic (12 cloves)
  • 1″ piece of ginger
  • 1 large onion
  • 6 pimentos
  • 1 1/2 cups split peas powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp geera
  • salt & black pepper to taste
  • oil for frying

Method

  1. Place dasheen bush (stems & stalks) into a food processor then grind into a paste
  2. Add garlic, onion, pimentos, ginger, salt and black pepper to food processor then grind into a paste
  3. Combine ingredients in a bowl
  4. Grease palms with oil then form batter into small balls
  5. Bring oil up to temperature in a wok or frying pan then fry balls for 2 minutes or until brown
  6. Drain then allow to cool
  7. Serve with your favorite chutney
